New market evaluation:

On behalf of a European airline, we conducted a market study to evaluate the feasibility of setting up a new base in another European country. This involved market, competitor and fares analysis leading to the definition of potential market entry options, followed by the development of a high level network plan with supporting profit and loss results based on the best entry option. Considerations were also given to other factors affecting the new market entry such as political and regulatory issues, distribution constraints, product configuration and implementation challenges.

Alliance entry evaluation:

We advised a Low Cost Carrier on its potential entry into the oneworld alliance which involved the evaluation of the client’s business expectations and requirements from the alliance and the key issues that could arise from such an alliance, including implementation challenges, and their potential impact on the airline’s business model. Subsequently we provided support in the negotiations of entry terms and conditions and assisted in the prioritisation of implementation issues for consideration.

Advice on LCC competition:

Advised the CEO of a full service international airline on a competitive strategy to combat new LCC entrant taking away traffic on key routes, which led to product re-configuration and pricing recommendations to enable an effective response.

BA Pension Fund Trustees business advice:

An independent review of the airline’s 5-year business outlook and identification of the issues impacting future performance on behalf of the Pension Fund Trustees. Using public information, we evaluated the operating and strategic environment, provided an interpretation of the company’s strategy, developed an independent financial model of the group, identified areas of risk and evaluated their financial impact on the business.

Executive bonus advice:

Advised the board of a major international airline on the appropriate bonus structure for its senior executives using industry benchmarking.
