London, July 14, 2008: Former BAA plc chief executive, Sir Michael Hodgkinson, has joined Nyras Capital, the aviation consultancy and investment management company, as a Senior Associate.
Announcing the appointment, Nyras chief executive, Richard Davey, said: “We are delighted to welcome Sir Michael. His experience and proven expertise as an outstanding industry leader will be valued by many of our clients.
“Initially, Sir Michael will be advising on the imminent outcome of the current Competition Commission inquiry into BAA airports and the implications this could have for the industry in general and individual Nyras clients, in particular. We expect his role to widen in the future.”
Sir Michael was chief executive of BAA plc between 1999 and 2003. He had previously been the company’s Group Airports Director.

After graduating with an honours degree in Industrial Economics from Nottingham University in 1965, he entered the automotive industry, first with Ford then with British Leyland where he rose to become managing director of Land Rover/Range Rover. Following a period with Grand Metropolitan plc as chief executive of its European Food Division, Sir Michael was recruited by BAA in 1992.
On retiring in 2003, he was invited to take up a number of non-executive board positions, including chairman of First Choice Holidays and chairman of Post Office Ltd. He is currently a non-executive director of Dublin Airport Authority; a board member of Transport for London; and deputy chairman of Tui Travel plc. Sir Michael was knighted in the 2003 Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to the air travel industry.
